Cuban Crocodile

This attractive species is one of the most endangered species of the ancient order Crocodilia. Its problem: it is being “hybridized” out of existence through crossbreeding with the American crocodile. Less than 3,000 genetically pure Cuban crocodiles exist in the wild. The key to its survival may well lie in breeding the species in captivity, which zoos are trying to do.

Cuban crocodiles are exceptionally bold, quick, and athletic jumpers that move well on land. The average length of a medium-sized adult is about eight or nine feet.
